SPAB Members Weekend 2017 – York

HWG staff members and SPAB Fellows Sam Peacock, Helen Bower, and current Fellow Jack Clare have recently returned from a busy weekend in York as part of the annual SPAB Members Weekend. This year’s theme of craftsmanship involved a number of engaging site visits throughout the weekend including York Minster and the Minster Stoneyard, York Mansion House, The Stained Glass Centre, and a tour of the Roman remains within the city walls. The annual Members Meeting was held at the King’s Manor, part of the University of York, where there was a great deal of good news and a spirit of moving forward positively. Local Master Mason Matthias Garn presented the keynote speech, comparing his traditional training in Germany to that in the UK. The SPAB Betjeman Award was presented, along with the Esher Award, given to Stafford Holmes for his lifetime service to conservation. The weekend was a valued opportunity to see and discuss a broad range of conservation issues and solutions in current projects, as well as meet up with fellow members.
