Stourhead House Library: National Trust

New Design

Stourhead House.

A full size model of an area of the Francis Eginton lunette at Stourhead Library, to assist with visitor interpretation.

In tandem with the conservation of the Francis Eginton lunette in the library HWG were commissioned to produce a full size model of a section of the window, in order to allow visitors to understand the technical processes behind its design and manufacture.

It clearly shows the double layer of rectangular panes, set into a metal supporting frame using glazing putty, all within a robust timber display frame.  The glazing bars have an internal brass section with a ferrous glazing rebate section soldered to the back face.  The model also shows how the image was built up by painting on all four faces of two individual panels of very thin glass.
