Set up by Director Steve Clare in 1995 in the cathedral city of Wells, we have a team of dedicated and passionate conservation professionals, passing on a craft tradition.  Steve Clare is a Fellow of the British Society of Master Glass Painters, an ICON accredited conservator, and has acted for some years as consultant to St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, King’s College, Cambridge and Winchester cathedral amongst others. Steve is also National Adviser for stained glass to the National Trust. Our work encompasses all aspects of the conservation process from the production of detailed condition reports and recommendations for conservation works for all scales of project, through site work and installation.  We work on all periods of glass, from medieval to modern.  This includes historic plain glazing and leaded light manufacture, as well as the conservation of 17^th and 18^th century stained glass, and architectural glass such as fanlights, roof lights, and lanterns.  We hold extensive stocks of handmade glass.  We design, manufacture and install bespoke Environmental Protective Glazing Systems for vulnerable glass, internally or externally ventilated.  We have a qualified stone conservator and mason as part of the team, and other skills in associated metalwork and woodwork.  Work in our care is stored in an environmentally controlled fire proof strong room.  We practice true conservation: our approach can be summarised as ‘As much as necessary, as little as possible’.
