Worcester Cathedral – repairs to the Great West Window
We have just returned from a two week site visit to Worcester Cathedral, where we are currently undertaking the repair of the Great West Window. This is a wonderful and vibrant 19th century creation, made in 1874 by the well-known Birmingham firm Hardman and Co. We have successfully installed the conserved panels from Phase 1, and removed the final Phase 2 panels for repair in the workshop, due for completion in March 2018. During our time on-site we were pleased to put a selection of the panels on public display, and have conservators on-hand to explain the work we do. This was a very successful exercise. It is clear that the people of Worcester are very proud of their cathedral and its precious heritage.
On the last evening Steve Clare, director at HWG, gave an illustrated talk in the cathedral nave, explaining the work of the stained glass conservator, paying particular reference to our work at the Cathedral.
