Pressed Glass at Compton Pauncefoot Church, Somerset
19th Century
St. Mary the Virgin Church, Compton Pauncefoot, Somerset.
Job specification – the re-leading of a weakened diamond quarry window with pressed glass.
HWG carried out repair works to the entire three light window and tracery lights, including refurbishment of the opening casement window at the bottom of the centre light. It contains interesting quarry glazing of pressed and painted glass. Pressed window glass was a method that evolved throughout the 19th century. It was produced via a glob of molten glass being pushed into a flat two dimensional mould. The Whitefriars Company in London, in particular, developed a fascinating range of designs using this technique.
